Beyond the Music Classroom™
Websites for Musicians Class
Through our research, we have found that when musicians needed a website to promote themselves, their ensemble, or their business, there were two main options in the world thus far. The first option is to find a web designer or web developer (who may or may not understand the needs of a musician), and then pay them a few thousand dollars to create the website for them. The second option is for the musician themselves to try and figure it out on their own.
We noticed this large gap between the options. Beyond the Music Classroom™, LLC now offers a first (as far as we know) and a one-of-a-kind live, online class (using the Zoom video conferencing platform) where musicians (who have graduated from high school, are at least 18 years old, are United States residents, and are currently living in the US) can learn how to create their own website using SquareSpace without needing to learn how to write any code.
The Websites for Musicians class is lead by someone who has earned degrees in music performance and music education, has earned degrees and certificates in various technologies (including web development), has twenty years of experience in all three areas - as a professional musician, as a web developer, and as an educator who specializes in teaching adult beginners - and can lead adult learners through the steps to build a website with no code knowledge required.
If you are (or know someone who is) a performer, composer, teacher, publisher, conductor, etc., who also can learn new technologies with guidance and want to build a website, then this live, interactive class is for you!
The Websites for Musicians class is offered in three parts as either groups sessions or individual sessions.
Part 1 - Introduction
Part 1 of the Websites for Musicians class includes some vocabulary words, and the basics of web addresses, domain names, and web hosting. Both the group session and the individual session is approximately an hour in length. The informational material is approximately 30 minutes in length. Questions can be asked as we progress through the material, as well as at the end. The group class size is limited to 6 students.
Please note: The time it takes to find an available domain name varies greatly. It could take minutes or months. We recommend completing the purchase of a domain name before enrolling in Part 2.
Part 2 - Analysis
Part 2 of the Websites for Musicians class dives into the anatomy of a basic webpage, and provides guidance about how to select a website template. Both the group session and the individual session is approximately 2.5 hours in length. The informational material is approximately 90 minutes in length. Questions can be asked as we progress through the material, as well as at the end. The group class size is limited to 6 students.
Please note: It could take minutes or days to evaluate and select a website template. We recommend selecting a template first and then enrolling in Part 3.
Part 3 - Building
Part 3 of the Websites for Musicians class is putting all the knowledge that you learned in Parts 1 and 2 to use by creating a website. The teacher will demonstrate each task and answer questions as the class progresses. Part 3 has two options for group classes. Option A is building a single-page website in two sessions with each session being approximately 2 hours. Option B is building a multi-page website in three sessions with each session being approximately 3 hours. The group class size is limited to 6 students. Part 3 - Option A and Part 3 - Option B are also available in individual sessions in 2-hour increments.
Please note: The first task to accomplish in both Option A and Option B could take up to 72 hours for it to complete (as it propogates through the internet). Keep this in mind if you're scheduling an individual session. We recommend setting up the second individual session after the 72 hours have elapsed.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is it possible to create a website without knowing how to write code?
Websites, and the tools used to create them, have come a long way since their invention in the 1990's. Now, there are options, like SquareSpace, that allows the builder to select the elements and place them on the webpage (which is very similar to dragging and dropping an item into place). Although no code knowledge is necessary to build the webpage using SqaureSpce, we've included the basic knowledge of the elements of a webpage (in Part 2) so you can better understand how a webpage is built.
Do I have to choose either all group sessions or all individual sessions for Parts 1, 2 and 3?
No. You can select whatever options best suit your needs and schedule. Both group sessions and individual sessions are available for Parts 1, 2, and 3.
How do I know if I am the right type of student for this class?
You can contact us via email and ask us about any concerns you have. You can also select the "Meet the Teacher" option on the schedule as an individual session to discuss any concerns and do an informal evaluation of your skills and abilities. There is no cost for the 30 minute "Meet the Teacher" session. The session takes place online, using the Zoom video conferencing platform. You can also call us.
What if I need help with the homework or need more time with the teacher beyond the class?
Individual sessions are available for Homework Help. See the individual sessions schedule for Homework Help availability.
How do I know if I should choose Option A or Option B in Part 3?
If you're just starting your music career, we recommmend that you start with Option A. For those musicians who are slightly more advanced in their career and have audio or video recordings, or possibly a following on social media, then Option B is a good starting point. If you're still unsure, you can contact us via email or select the "Meet the Teacher" option on the schedule as an individual session to discuss any questions you may have. There is no cost for the 30 minute "Meet the Teacher" session. The session takes place online, using the Zoom video conferencing platform. You can also call us.
I don't need to build a website, but I'm really curious about the topics covered in Part 1 and Part 2. Can I enroll in those sessions even if I'm not going to complete Part 3?
Yes. Curious minds are welcome to enroll.
Do I need to enroll in all three parts at the same time?
No. We recommend that you enroll in Part 1 first. When you've completed the homework for Part 1, enroll in Part 2. When you've completed the homework for Part 2, enroll in Part 3.
Can I see an example of a website that could be built?
Yes. Here is an example of Part 3 Option A (a single page website). Here is an example of Part 3 Option B (a multipage website).
For our convenience, we put both the multi-page exmaple and the single page example in the same website. The website that you build will have either be multiple pages or a single page.
I'm younger than 18 years old and didn't graudate from high school yet, can I take this class?
No. This class is based on knowledge that is taught in high school. Additionally, Beyond the Music Classroom™, LLC only teaches students who are at least 18 years old, which is the legal age of an adult in the United States. We do not teach minors.
